I have been to the Macau Venetian. The canal/shopping area is pretty impressive. I didnt see any canal rides going on, I guess because I was there pretty late at night and business was pretty light at the time. I honestly have no idea about the price, but assume it is not free.
As far as dress code, they didn’t seem too strict. I don’t think they care about that as much as in Vegas. One of my friends was wearing jeans and it wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t see anyone get rejected because of what they were wearing. A word of caution on flipflops though…in Mainland China, it may be considered strange or rude to wear them everywhere like Americans do. People here put them under the category of “house slippers”. One time I went to teach my students and I wore flipflops and they told me it was not really appropriate. However, that was 2 years ago, and I have started to see them worn outside more. So in short, I would say jeans are fine, flipflops are possibly a no-no.
Why do you want to dress down anyway? I think half the fun of going to a place like the Venetian is dressing up a bit : P

I came across the Venetian Macao website the other day. They have the price for gondola ride -88 for adults list there. It’s not free!
