I have been to Macau twice for the past 9 months. The Government of Macau is intended to build Macau as the 2nd Las Vegas in term of casinos. There are many hotels out there, all built with gambling facitilities and 90% of tourists are come from Mainland China. The latest hotel is called The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, you may browse the link below. Besides hotels & casinos, there are nothing much in Macau. The environment and living standard are a bit like Mainland China, the most interesting thing is they accept Hong Kong Dollars and much welcome to receive RMB China Dollars. I believe Macua does has her own currency but never see it before.

My brother went there to visit 8 yrs ago and he said that it was totally being buit up. So it seems that assumption is correct.

I’m from Macau, but came back from my MBA from England last year… It’s really a huge difference between the time I left and now.. We’ve got lots of casinos, hotels, restaurants, as well as other industry players.. I was astonished when I came back.
That being said, as a local resident, I just feel that it’s a bit annoying now. Macau’s no longer a quiet place compared with a few years ago. The many world heritage sites are being overwhelmed by new world-class casino resorts. We (basically Macau people) believe that this little landmass is going to boom continuously, but just feeling a bit worried about the pace of this boom.
Feel free to check , you can see the new developments, new casinos, travel info here.
